AccesSurf is a community-based organization that relies heavily on our volunteers and the skills they have in working with people with disabilities. We are proud to say that we have many loyal long-time volunteers that are skilled in our specialization areas. We grow together as an organization, and opportunities for training are readily available.

This training manual is part our efforts to support our volunteers in advancing their skills to create accessible communities. Use this manual as a reference and supplemental tool to the in-person or virtual advanced trainings.  Our advanced volunteer training is designed to help a volunteer specialize in their desired area of our program and advance their knowledge and skills. The process to become a key lead expert in an area of AccesSurf is depicted below.

Volunteers are able to advance in our organization through trainings and practical supports. Our key leaders and staff invite volunteers that desire and show skill in their area.  A volunteer may be recommended and seek further training in advanced skills in specific areas and life-saving certifications with Red Cross. Once all trainings are completed, the volunteer will have an opportunity to train with a key lead in the desired area for an on-the-job training experience. Once proficient in all skills, the volunteer may become an advanced leader and may have a chance to become a key lead when an opening is available or an alternate is needed. We invite all who are dedicated and who desire to make a difference in our organization to inquire about the process with a staff member or key leader in the desired area.
